The school library is open!
We are thrilled to announce we have officially opened the school library!
At the start of September the huge plan to convert the empty classroom being used as storage began. FOBS (Friends of Baydon School) were incredibly supportive and enthusiastic and once we had a plan for the space designed kindly for free by Alix Barker (who has designed several library projects for school around Nottinghamshire) we were off!
The space was cleared at the start of the year, to then be painted and carpets professionally cleaned. Once completed, then came the ordering and delivery of furniture for the space (all funded by FOBS). Then the exciting part followed, the addition of books! Books came from a variety of sources, non-fiction mostly transferred from our existing stock, whilst fiction texts were sourced by the following ways: purchased new for each year group by FOBS, kindly donated by Penguin Book Publishers (to support promoting diversity in our school) and from donations from families and friends of the school. All books needed to be added onto the brand new loan system that had been designed and created from scratch by Nick Salma, from West Wilts Micros and this mammoth task was completed by an army of volunteers from FOBS, the staff and parent volunteers.
We finally celebrated the library being open by local author, Larry Hayes, visiting the school to cut the ribbon and then lead two very enjoyable writing sessions for Key Stage 2. Every child in the school then had the opportunity to check out a book for the first time!
As we move into the new year we are very. much looking forward to seeing our wonderful new space in action. Thank you to everyone who has made such a wonderful valuable learning resource for our children a reality.
